Want to walk in the Laois countryside? The rolling hills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains are a great place to start where you can follow in the footsteps of Fionn Mac Cool. A walk by Glenbarrow will show you the pretty sites of its three waterfalls and you’ll find a looped walk at Ridge of Capard which includes a boardwalk and the lost village of the cones.
If you are craving some solitude the less popular Glen Monicknew looped walk includes a beautiful stream and a famine bridge. And pop into Lar Hogan’s pub in Coolrain for a warm-up, a pint and some nice food.
