Embark on an unforgettable experience as you adventure around Ireland with Solo Sisters Travel Ireland. Our 7-night, 8-day trip begins in Ireland’s vibrant capital city of Dublin before making our way to experience the ancient wonders of Newgrange as we venture North to take in the bright lights and bustling culture of Northern Ireland’s capital of Belfast. We will travel along the enchanting Causeway Coast, exploring the mystical Glens of Antrim and the breath taking Giant’s Causeway.

Taking in the historic walls of Derry, the wild and rugged beauty of Inishowen and Donegal, and the breath taking landscape of Connemara, we will reach the hustle and bustle of Galway City. Throughout the tour, you’ll be immersed in Irish culture and heritage as this fun-loving group takes on the road trip of a lifetime!

Itinerary Details

Dublin to Belfast

Departing Dublin, we’ll travel through the Irish countryside into County Meath to explore our first UNESCO World Heritage site on our tour, Newgrange Passage Tomb. At over 5,000 years old Newgrange is one of the oldest known structures in the world, predating the pyramids in Egypt. The remarkable Neolithic Passage Tomb with its intricate stone carvings holds a fascinating history just waiting to be explored.

Onwards to Belfast, we’ll head to a charming Irish pub to meet our local guide Rory for a traditional Irish pub lunch, complete with warm local hospitality and the opportunity to learn how to pull your own perfect pint of Guinness.

After lunch, Rory will take the Solo Sisters to explore Belfast city, hear about its turbulent history, complex political landscape, and the journey through the peace process that followed. You’ll take in famous landmarks such as the Belfast Peace Walls and the murals on the Falls Road and Shankill Road. After the walking tour the evening is yours to explore Belfast at your leisure.

Belfast to Derry

With an early start from Belfast we’ll head east journeying along the picturesque Causeway Coast. The stunning coastal views from the winding roads of the Glens of Antrim will have you reaching for the camera, requesting stops along the way. We’ll explore some of the iconic filming locations from the hit series, Game of Thrones including Carnlough and Ballintoy Harbour.

The highlight of the day will be The Giants Causeway. We’ll embark on a memorable hike along the rugged coastal path with local guide, Eimear, as you marvel at the unique hexagonal rock formations that make up this natural wonder, learn about the myths and legends surrounding the second UNESCO World Heritage site of the road trip.

After a delightful lunch, we’ll continue with brief stops at two iconic landmarks: Dunluce Castle and The Dark Hedges, offering picturesque views and opportunities for snapshots. We’ll then make our way to our hotel where you will have the evening free to unwind and explore at your leisure.

Life on a farm

This is a truly immersive adventure – we’ll delve into the heart of rural Ireland at Glenshane Sheep Farm, where farmer Jamese will warmly welcomes us into his world. Surrounded by rolling green hills and grazing sheep, this traditional farm offers a unique and enriching experience unlike any other. From the moment we arrive, we’ll be enveloped by the sights, sounds, and scents of farm life.

Jamese’s passion for his craft is palpable, sharing his deep knowledge of sheep farming and introducing us to his flock, weaving tales of tradition and heritage into every interaction. We’ll learn the art of herding sheep and shearing wool as well as seeing all the rare breeds that reside on the farm.

Your day will be filled with unforgettable memories and a newfound appreciation for farm life.

City of Derry

We’ll begin our day with a guided walking tour of the historic city walls of Derry, learning about the city’s rich history and turbulent past from local guide, Dermot, taking our time to stroll along the ancient fortifications that offer panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside.

We’ll descend from the walls to explore Derry’s famous murals that depict the city’s complex history, political struggles, and vibrant modern diverse society. After the tour you’ll have free time to visit The Guildhall or The Tower Museum, lunch in one of the city’s many charming cafés, wander around and soak in the atmosphere.

On the road again, on route to our accommodation on the beautiful Inishowen Peninsula we’ll make a brief stop at the Grianán of Aileach, an ancient ringfort atop a hill with amazing views of the surrounding landscape. The evening will be spent relaxing and unwinding or experiencing an Irish music night in a local pub to reflect on our busy day.

Inishowen to Donegal Town

The day will begin with a scenic hike in Glenveagh National Park for a scenic hike, following one of the park’s many hiking trails and taking in the views of the sparkling lakes and rugged mountains – keeping an eye out for wildlife, including red deer and golden eagles.

After lunch, we’ll head to Donegal Town where we visit the beautifully preserved medieval O’Donnell castle on the banks of the River Eske. We’ll take a guided tour and hear about its fascinating history over the last 600 years.

Later checking into your accommodation there’ll be plenty of free time to explore some of the great stores in Donegal town.

The Wild Atlantic Way

Heading westward from Donegal town following the coastal route that winds its way along the Wild Atlantic Way, we’ll stop at the stunning Slieve League Cliffs, which are among the highest sea cliffs in Europe.

Taking a breathtaking boat trip along the foot of the cliffs we’ll enjoy panoramic views across the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged coastline above. Stopping to enjoy a picnic amidst this stunning scenery of Slieve League (weather permitting) it’s sure to fill your soul with the Irish seascapes.

Next stop is County Sligo and the historic mansion of Lissadell House. We’ll learn about the influential Gore-Booth sisters who once lived there and hear stories of its famous visitors, including W.B. Yeats, who found inspiration in its surrounds.

Spending the night in Connemara will give you plenty of time to relax and explore the local restaurants and pubs.

Connemara

The penultimate day starts with a breathtaking drive along the famous Sky Road, one of Ireland’s most scenic coastal routes – soaking in the sweeping vistas of Connemara’s rugged coastline, dotted with secluded beaches, dramatic cliffs and picturesque islands.

We’ll lace up our boots again for an invigorating hike in Connemara National Park through ancient woodlands and over heather-covered hills, immersing ourselves in the tranquillity of nature and enjoying the panoramic views of the Twelve Bens Mountain range.

Feeling revitalised we’ll head to Kylemore Abbey for a fabulous lunch made with local produce then on to visit the magnificent neo-Gothic mansion that is nestled in the heart of Connemara, visiting its stunning gardens and taking a tour of the abbey to learn about its history.

Ashford Castle

Our last day will begin with an unforgettable experience at Ashford Castle in Cong. We’ll enjoy a private Hawk Walk in the stunning surroundings of the castle grounds, learning about the falconry, and flying these majestic birds of prey under the guidance of their expert handlers.

We’ll depart Cong and travel to the vibrant city of Galway where you can take some time to explore the city at your leisure. You can browse the charming boutiques and artisan shops, listen to live music, and treat yourself to a delicious lunch at one of the city’s renowned restaurants or traditional pubs.

Heading through the picturesque midlands we’ll head towards Dublin arriving in the evening, marking the end of our memorable and fun-filled road trip through Ireland, with old stories and new friends.
