ITINERARY
What to Expect!
Powerscourt
We’ll leave your accommodation/agreed pick-up point in Dublin and head south towards Powerscourt House and Gardens, renowned for their stunning beauty and named National Geographic’s third-best garden in the world. The forty-seven acres of the gardens include formal terraces, ornamental lakes, and a walled garden originally the kitchen garden for the Palladian-style mansion.
Glendalough
Setting out from Powerscourt we’ll travel through the Wicklow National Park and
across the wild rugged beauty of the Wicklow mountains passing Lough Tay, known as The Guinness Lake, on our way to the Glendalough Monastic city. Glen dá lough, meaning the Glen of two loughs or lakes is a monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin in the sixth century. We’ll explore the magnificent gateway into the settlement, seven churches, the 100ft round tower, and of course the upper and lower lakes, weather permitting.
Wicklow Gaol
After lunch at a rural pub, we’ll stop at Wicklow Town’s historic and haunted Gaol and experience life in an eighteenth-century prison. The holographic images of the exhibition bring the harsh reality of how bleak the jail was, to life.
Black Castle
Pausing for a short stop at the Black Castle and Travelahawk Beach you’ll see where it is thought St. Patrick and his followers arrived in Ireland to preach Christianity as we make our way back to Dublin. This tour promises a perfect blend of natural splendour, cultural heritage and a thoroughly enjoyable day. Other options that can be added to the tour are Powerscourt Distillery or a sheepdog demonstration.
